In response to Master Cheng Yen’s appeal, the founder of Nepal International Buddhist Society, Bhante Maitri, promoted the distribution of vegetarian food at his free clinic. Bhikkhunis also responded to the appeal and people soon joined in. In addition, Tzu Chi volunteers also introduced the spiritual concept of bamboo banks, with the hope that kindness will gradually develop and achieve spiritual abundance in life.
